The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed University of Florida Defensive Lineman Desmond Watson as an Undrafted Free Agent.

Via NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero,

“Former Florida DT Desmond Watson — the 6-foot-5, 464-pound behemoth — is signing with the #Bucs on a deal that includes a $20,000 signing bonus and $50,000 guaranteed, per his agent EJ Gonzalez of Grady Sports Agency.”

Watson was the picture of durability, playing all four years with the Gators without missing a single game – impressive considering his massive size. While his stats might not jump off the page (63 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks), he made an impact in ways that went beyond the numbers. As a senior, Watson played all 13 games, notching 20 tackles and even showing versatility as a short-yardage fullback in the Gasparilla Bowl win over Tulane. Coach Billy Napier praised him, saying Watson played “the best football of his career” that season.

At Pro Day, Watson blew away scouts with his athleticism, despite his size. He benched 36 reps – more than any Combine participant this year – and ran a 5.93 40-yard dash with a 25-inch vertical jump. Without a Combine invite, Watson made a strong case for himself, showcasing power and surprisingly fluid movement.
