The Buccaneers select Tez Johnson to bolster their offense
With the 235th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft , the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Oregon wide receiver Tez Johnson . Todd Bowles and Jason Licht’s team rounds out the draft by adding dynamite to their receiving corps, adding speed, agility, and big-play ability from the slot.
Johnson arrives in Tampa as a dangerous weapon in tight spaces and as an option to bolster the special return units. After shining at Oregon, where he racked up 3,889 receiving yards, 28 touchdowns , and 310 receptions , Tez has all the makings of one of those seventh-round steals that can change offensive dynamics.
As a senior, Johnson was named Second-Team All-Pac-12 and MVP of the Big Ten Championship Game , cementing his position as one of the conference’s most productive receivers.
How does Tez Johnson play?
Tez Johnson is an electric and explosive receiver, ideal for working in pass rush and RPO systems. His acceleration , route-taking ability , and post-catch vision are his greatest strengths. From the slot, he can break down defenses with his ability to quickly find openings and rack up yards after the catch (YAC).
His playing style is reminiscent of Tutu Atwell (Los Angeles Rams): small, agile, and with impossible moves in short spaces. In man-to-man coverage, his footwork and quick release allow him to easily gain separation.
Additionally, Johnson has experience as a punt returner , something that with the NFL’s new rules could increase his value as a versatile piece on the roster.
