Preparations for the coming 2025 National Football League campaign continue with all franchises deep into their pre season warm up and training camp routines, and many rosters have already been finalised apart from the natural last minute injury changes that can often take place. That is no different for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and head coach Todd Bowles, who is again relishing the battles to come with the Tennessee Titans next up as the proper gridiron season nears.

It has been a busy old time at AdventHealth Training Center again this summer and fans around the globe have already got themselves an ExpressVPN for safety as they stream the upcoming match ups. The Bucs are certainly dealing with some tough injury problems in their training camp period, and worryingly they have just added star quarterback Baker Mayfield to that list. As revealed by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the 30 year old two time Pro Bowl star was forced to sit out of Friday’s practice as he had suffered a contusion to his throwing hand the previous day. Having been sent for precautionary X-Rays and scans, they were completely clear, but it makes all the sense in the world for them to take him out of the fray for a short period to allow the issue to fully heal up so that there are no unforeseen ramifications.
—
The sports science and medical departments are already busy enough with the issues Tristan Wirfs, Chris Godwin, Cade Otton, Lavonte David, Anthony Walker and David Walker are all dealing with. Bowles is also having to deal with the Desmond Watson issue given the fact that he is working with a trainer on a separate field, but the defensive tackles better introduction to his team mates and joining them in practice will depend on what the scales say as his fitness problem is not medically related.
—
Having joined the Bucs as an undrafted free agent, it was known that the 22 year old weighed 464 pounds at Florida’s pro day back in March, and it is believed that he has now lost nearly 30 pounds since signing his contract. However, the Bucs have set him an undisclosed weight goal and until he reaches that target he will be training alone.
—
Bowles is pleased with his progress so far, and the player is doing exactly what is being asked of him as right now the only real focus is on making him a ‘healthier player on the field’ and when that point is reached, he will join in full training and begin working on the things that the coaching staff have in mind for him that will really aid his ongoing development and growth – but they need him fit and healthy enough to reach the potential that they see in him.
—
Whatever happens on that score remains to be seen but they obviously view Watson very much as one for the future and a project player to be worked on given his rawness, so whilst he ticks a longer term box, it is all eyes to the 2025 campaign and Bucs fans will all be hoping that some of the walking wounded as listed above will make it back in time for some training ahead of the big kick off against the Atlanta Falcons in September.
