The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed veteran offensive tackle Charlie Heck to a one-year, $1.57 million deal on March 13, initially expecting him to serve as a backup and provide depth to the team. Heck, a former fourth-round pick by the Houston Texans in 2020, has previously played for the Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and San Francisco 49ers.
However, with Tristan Wirfs undergoing knee surgery, Heck’s role has shifted, and he’s now poised to start at right tackle. Wirfs’ expected return in Week 4 could see Heck revert to his backup role, but for now, he’s taking on significant playing time. Heck’s contract includes $400,000 in guaranteed money and an average annual salary of $1.57 million.

Heck was also drawn to the Buccaneers due to his positive impression of the team’s coaching staff, which played a role in his decision to sign with them.
“I mean, just keeping up with different O-lines during my career, this is one that I’ve always kind of kept my eyes on,” Heck added. “It’s been a group that I would be excited to be a part of, so I’m happy to be here. They’ve done a great job.”
