Buccaneers Set to Release Former Second-Round Quarterback

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are parting ways with quarterback Kyle Trask due to a shoulder injury that will land him on injured reserve.

Despite signing Trask to a one-year deal this offseason worth almost $3 million, with $1.337 million guaranteed, the team has decided to go with Teddy Bridgewater as their backup quarterback behind Baker Mayfield. Bridgewater’s impressive showing in preseason games, including a notable performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers, likely sealed the deal.

Trask will be released with an injury settlement, making way for Bridgewater to take over the backup role. Connor Bazelak is expected to remain on the practice squad. The Buccaneers’ decision might not be surprising given Trask’s limited playing time and lack of impressive stats during his time with the team.

Via ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler,
#The #Bucs plan to release quarterback Kyle Trask, per source. He will revert to IR with a shoulder issue, then work out a settlement or release soon and look for a new team. Tampa’s long-time QB2 on the move.”
