Buccaneers veteran wide receiver Chris Godwin made his 2025 regular-season debut in the team’s 31-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, dropping Tampa Bay to a 3-1 record.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles indicated on his SiriusXM NFL Radio show that Godwin will only get stronger through the fall. Bowles pointed to Godwin’s solid debut in the team’s 31-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Godwin played a significant chunk of snaps and made several key receptions.
“The more he plays, the better you’re gonna see him look, and we expect to see a whole different Chris next week,” Bowles stated ahead of Tampa Bay’s matchup at the 3-1 Seattle Seahawks this coming Sunday, via JoeBucsFan website.
Chris Godwin, returning from a severe October 2024 injury cluster including a dislocated left ankle, high ankle sprain, fractured fibula, and torn deltoid, played in his first 2025 regular-season game against the Philadelphia Eagles, stepping into a larger role with Tampa Bay’s top receiver Mike Evans out due to a hamstring injury.
Godwin had 3 receptions for 26 yards on 10 targets in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 31-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Just having him out there, seeing No. 14 out there is unbelievable,” Bowles continued. “I mean, the things he did to get back, the work he’s put in, the person he is, the toughness that he shows and how smart he is as a player and makes us 10 times better — you can’t wait till he gets his feet underneath him and he really starts helping us because he is gonna be a terror.”
With Evans sidelined due to his hamstring issue, Buccaneers fans will have to wait longer to see him, Godwin, and rookie Emeka Egbuka all on the field together.
