Buccaneers Are Truly a Complete Team

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers improved to 5-1 on the season following their 30-19 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

I wanted to single out a few Buccaneers players who made huge contrubutions to Sunday’s victory but I couldn’t whittle the list down to ONLY a couple!

The fact is, the Bucs got huge contributions from many players and isn’t that WHY we love this game so much? There are some sports like basketball or hockey where if you lose a few players your season is over.
Football is the ultimate team game and the Bucs are proving that when you have a great scouting, coaching and development staff in place, you can withstand a slurry of injuries.
The team has been hit hard with injuries this season. Especially to the Wide Receiver room. When your top-3 WRs, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Jalen McMillan are out it’s a tough road to travel. Then, Emeka Egbuka went out at and the Bucs STILL put up 30 points.
Kam Johnson during his last preseason game, kept dropping passes. He was most likely one of the last few players to even make the team.  Sunday he’s catching everything! The other Johnson, (Tez) is wafer thin but fast as lightning.
Every unit stepped up today. The band aid O-Line held up and the run game was efficient enough to keep the Bucs from being one dimensional.
The Defense was opportunistic creating two turnovers and getting 6 sacks on Mack Jones. They gave up 1 TD and 19 total points.
And, what can you say about Baker Mayfield other than MVP? In the Buccaneers’ 50th season, he has quickly become one of the most popular Bucs QBs ever. When asked about his team today he quickly turned his attention to next Monday night against Detroit. His focus is intense and that’s what you’d expect from their captain.

Of all the NFL teams that I could follow, why did I choose the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? It was 1979, I was an impressionable 12-year-old living in Canada. At that time, getting any NFL coverage was tough enough but that was reserved for the elite teams like the Cowboys, Steelers etc. I watched one game at 1 PM and one game at 4 PM. That was it. No Redzone, no night games on Sunday Each Christmas my family would drive from Montreal to visit my aunt in Jacksonville. I remember seeing the Bucs playing on TV against the Falcons when I was there. I saw something that day that changed my fandom forever. There was a QB wearing number 12, in an orange jersey and he wasn’t white! As a minority myself, seeing a non-white QB was something that immediately I was drawn to. I knew that this was the team, and this was the guy who I would follow. The years between 1979 and 1997 were obviously difficult but my fandom never wavered. If anything, it made me stronger as a person. I’ve often joked that I’ve had 3 wives but only ONE football team. I was asked if I wanted to write the occasional article for Bucs Report. Talking and writing about the Bucs is a full-time hobby so of course my answer was YES. I’m 56, retired and living in Costa Rica now. I sport 4 Buc tattoos and have been fortunate to make many visits to Tampa to watch the Bucs. I’ve made countless friends and even more memories. I look forward to chatting and interacting with the many Buccaneer fans throughout the world. Go Bucs Greg D’Cruz
