Big Easy Win: Buccaneers 23-Saints 3

The Buccaneers are 6 and 2, have a 2 game lead in their Division and now don’t play another game until after all the leftover candy from Halloween has been consumed. Their next game is November 9 vs New England.

If you’re a fan of defense than this was a masterpiece. The Bucs Defense scored the games first TD on an Interception by Anthony Nelson. They were robbed of two more defensive scores by Antoine Winfield Jr. but thankfully they didn’t need those points today.

The Saints offense was so bad that they eventually turned to their back up QB but he didn’t fare any better than their starter.
Offensively this game wasn’t a work of art but.  They had 1st and goal at the 1 yard line but couldn’t punch it in. Then later in the game they had the exact same scenario but managed to finally get a TD on 4th down. It’s clear that they need the bye week to do some self scouting. Specifically they need to find the 5 best lineman to get the job done because Baker Mayfield has been hit far too often these last 2 games. Today he didn’t attempt one run.
But let’s focus on the positives. During the off season, Todd Bowles said he wanted to see his team create more turnovers.  The Bucs have 6 turnovers in their past 2 games. They also are doing a better job of getting to the QB and are playing much better in the secondary.
The trade deadline comes while the Bucs are on their bye, so the health of certain position groups (WR, OLB, ) could play a huge role in determining whether they make a trade or stand pat.
Today a 1 win Dolphins team beat a Falcons team in their crib, a 2 win Texans team beat the 49ers and a winless Jets team beat the Bengals.  Winning is not easy.  I’ll never nitpick about how pretty a win was.
My advice is, use this week to appreciate what the team has accomplished  despite the amount of injuries they’ve dealt with. Enjoy the bye week, I know my cardiologist and I will

Of all the NFL teams that I could follow, why did I choose the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? It was 1979, I was an impressionable 12-year-old living in Canada. At that time, getting any NFL coverage was tough enough but that was reserved for the elite teams like the Cowboys, Steelers etc. I watched one game at 1 PM and one game at 4 PM. That was it. No Redzone, no night games on Sunday Each Christmas my family would drive from Montreal to visit my aunt in Jacksonville. I remember seeing the Bucs playing on TV against the Falcons when I was there. I saw something that day that changed my fandom forever. There was a QB wearing number 12, in an orange jersey and he wasn’t white! As a minority myself, seeing a non-white QB was something that immediately I was drawn to. I knew that this was the team, and this was the guy who I would follow. The years between 1979 and 1997 were obviously difficult but my fandom never wavered. If anything, it made me stronger as a person. I’ve often joked that I’ve had 3 wives but only ONE football team. I was asked if I wanted to write the occasional article for Bucs Report. Talking and writing about the Bucs is a full-time hobby so of course my answer was YES. I’m 56, retired and living in Costa Rica now. I sport 4 Buc tattoos and have been fortunate to make many visits to Tampa to watch the Bucs. I’ve made countless friends and even more memories. I look forward to chatting and interacting with the many Buccaneer fans throughout the world. Go Bucs Greg D’Cruz
