Captain’s Table – Walk the Plank: Buccaneers Are Beatdown In Tinsletown

0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traveled all the way to Los Angeles just to get trampled by the Rams. There wasn’t a lot of good, but plenty of bad, especially the injury to quarterback Baker Mayfield.

That can only mean it’s time for Carter Brantley’s weekly article, “Captain’s Table – Walk the Plank”.

Walk the Plank:

This Whole Game

I mean, my Lord what a shit show. The offense looked awful from the jump and did not get better as the game went on. Baker was clearly injured and shouldn’t really have played as long as he did. The defense looked lost and lifeless as Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams had an absolute field day. Even the special teams was awful as Riley Dixon had a horrible punt in the first half that really set the tone for what the rest of the game would look like. Hell even Chase McLaughlin managed to screw up a kickoff to begin the second half. It’s hard to pinpoint one thing that went wrong for Tampa Tampa Bay because everything did. But I’ll still try to break it down into the specifics because it’s also kind of fun to just take an absolute dump on a team when they play this bad.

Todd Bowles

I get it. He’s been incredibly successful and no one is more of a defender than I am when it comes to people calling for his head. Because it’s silly. Most of the time he is not the main reason the Buccaneers lose. But this week it felt different. They came out absolutely flat. And again, I also understand that this team has these stretches every year and this recent three game losing streak is not the end of the season, especially with some favorable matchups coming up at the end. But in terms of this team being a Super Bowl contender, I think that ship has sailed. Again it’s not entirely Todd’s fault but boy did they look bad on defense this week.

Zyon McCollum

Davante Adams was putting on a show and it was pretty much exclusively at the expense of McCollum. Frankly Adams should’ve had a third touchdown, catch at the end of the first half, but it was overthrown by Matthew Stafford, one of the few mistakes that Stafford made throughout the game. It’s just one game and it was an incredibly tough matchup as Adams is still one of the most talented receivers in the league when he is right. But it was still ugly to watch.

The Offense

I try not to pin everything on the quarterback when looking at NFL or football games in general because clearly it’s more complicated than that. Baker did not look well. He looked banged up, and the offense struggled mightily because of it. The run game never got going and neither did the passing game. It was just bad all the way around. I don’t really know what else to say.

Captain’s Table:

The End of the Game

Mercifully this game ended and we all got to stop watching this dogshit team try to play football. That’s really the only silver lining anyone can take from this whole experience.
