Greg D’Cruz’s Buccaneers vs Saints Preview

30 points! That should be the Buccaneers battle cry or mantra for the remainder of this season and hopefully the playoffs.

The offense is scoring an average of 25 points per game (25.2 to be exact). Even though they have played multiple players at offensive Line and have had more WR combinations than most have to endure.
At this point, expecting the defense to hold teams under 24 points seems like wishful thinking. They give up an average of 25 points per game (25.1). Despite the fact that they’ve been healthier than the offense. They are what they are at this point.
The Offense can and WILL get better. Last week we saw  the return of Bucky Irving. Soon  Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan will be back as well. Both returned to practice.
The offense that we saw in training camp is finally going to be seen in the regular season.
Defenses have feasted on two rookie WRs who, as good as they are, are still rookies. It’s unfair to ask them to have the same type of chemistry with Baker Mayfield that Evans, Godwin and McMillan have had. With their return, the offense is about to explode. We saw Godwin have those key 3rd down conversions last week and he’s only going to get better.
My hope is that once the Bucs can get on top of teams early, the defense will get that key third down stop or create a turnover and that will be enough to secure a victory.
I think Coach Bowles realizes that the strength of his team is on offense. Last week the Buccaneers won the coin toss but elected to receive the ball in the hope of getting on top early. Most teams with good defenses will defer and  get the ball to start the 2nd half.
My prediction is that the scoring output will increase starting this weekend against the Saints.
Bucs 31 Saints 20
I’ll be there for the 2nd of 3 straight home games. Hopefully the crowd will be even happier than we were a week ago.

Of all the NFL teams that I could follow, why did I choose the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? It was 1979, I was an impressionable 12-year-old living in Canada. At that time, getting any NFL coverage was tough enough but that was reserved for the elite teams like the Cowboys, Steelers etc. I watched one game at 1 PM and one game at 4 PM. That was it. No Redzone, no night games on Sunday Each Christmas my family would drive from Montreal to visit my aunt in Jacksonville. I remember seeing the Bucs playing on TV against the Falcons when I was there. I saw something that day that changed my fandom forever. There was a QB wearing number 12, in an orange jersey and he wasn’t white! As a minority myself, seeing a non-white QB was something that immediately I was drawn to. I knew that this was the team, and this was the guy who I would follow. The years between 1979 and 1997 were obviously difficult but my fandom never wavered. If anything, it made me stronger as a person. I’ve often joked that I’ve had 3 wives but only ONE football team. I was asked if I wanted to write the occasional article for Bucs Report. Talking and writing about the Bucs is a full-time hobby so of course my answer was YES. I’m 56, retired and living in Costa Rica now. I sport 4 Buc tattoos and have been fortunate to make many visits to Tampa to watch the Bucs. I’ve made countless friends and even more memories. I look forward to chatting and interacting with the many Buccaneer fans throughout the world. Go Bucs Greg D’Cruz
