The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell short at home, losing 24-20 to the New Orleans Saints. This tough loss drops them to 7-6 on the season and allows the Carolina Panthers to tie them for first place in the NFC South.
That can only mean it’s time for Carter Brantley’s weekly article “Captain’s Table – Walk the Plank “. Enjoy!
Walk the Plank:
The Whole Damn Team
What a pathetic effort. This was miserable to watch. It was wet and rainy, which sucked. But that’s such a sorry excuse for such a sorry performance from a sorry team. The offense looked lifeless and rudderless most of the game. Baker and Egbuka continue their slides from elite performances early in the season to being below average at best during a key stretch of the season. It’s not a lost cause to win the division but does it even matter? Does this look like a team that has any realistic chance against any real football team in a playoff game? I mean, the Saints were 2-10 entering Sunday! What are we even doing here, folks. These players need to donate their game checks to some charities. No one deserved it.
The Entire Coaching Staff
I’ve tried to be reasonable. People can be harsh and over reactionary when it comes to coaches, coaching decisions, and calling for people’s heads. But Sunday was one of the most disappointing showings I’ve seen from an “NFL” team in a long time. Both teams looked horrible, yet somehow the Bucs managed to look worse. Every week Todd Bowles has emphasized how bad the team’s tackling has been. Gone in one ear, out the other I suppose. The defense has somehow gotten worse as the year’s gone on. The offense is continuing their spiral after sneaking away with a victory last week. This is just inexcusable, and it starts with the coaching staff. I want to say this team is better than such a dogshit game, but maybe they’re not. Maybe this is what they’re capable of, with both this roster and this coaching staff.
Captain’s Table:
The Merciful End
Thank goodness this game ended. It was sickening. Both sides of the ball. I hate to keep harping on it, but this was a “playoff game” for the Bucs. From their mouths. This is how they play in a playoff game? I mean, it makes sense, they’ve won one (1) playoff game in this post-Brady era. It’s been tough to watch. And Sunday was a culmination of it all. Do we really have to watch this piece of shit team play more games? 4 more games. Man. I don’t know if I’ve got it in me to put myself through that. I’ll still be there Thursday, I guess, but my goodness. It’s going to be tough.
