Captain’s Table – Walk the Plank: Another Buccaneers Collapse

0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dropped another divisional game Thursday night. This time to the lowly Falcons 29-28.

That can only mean it’s time for Carter Brantley’s weekly article, “Captain’s Table – Walk the Plank “. Enjoy!

Walk the Plank:

Baker Mayfield’s decision making

That interception. Cannot. Happen. End of story. Chance to put the Falcons away for the night, just don’t be stupid, and he does the exact opposite. Can’t even fathom it. Such an awful decision.

Baker Mayfield’s sack avoidance

GET RID OF THE BALL. He took so many sacks tonight. Drive killers. Taking points off the board. Making Chase McLaughlin’s job way harder than it had to be.

Zyon McCollum

He ended up exiting the game with an injury, so I’ll try not to be too harsh on the lad, but the jump offsides that cost the Bucs 4 points was just… yeah. Alright. I’ll leave it there.

This God-forsaken defense

What a choke job.

Captain’s Table:

Throwback uniforms

I get on the Bucs as an organization for a lot of things, but by golly do their throwback uniforms hit. So do the Falcons! Both teams were supporting old-school threads Thursday night, and it really brought a fun energy to what would’ve been a fun night for the Buccaneers if not for, well, yeah.

The Christmas lights on the pirate ship

Hey, I get it, freedom of religion makes the country’s emphasis on all-things-Christmas a bit weird, but it was still fun to see the ship decked out in lights. I love Christmas, and that was a beautiful thing to see.

This weather

Last weekend was tough, rainy, and gross (although, frankly, I really love that weather personally), but Thursday night couldn’t have been better. It was cool and crisp, enough to need a jacket but not so much as to be uncomfortable. I was so happy to roll out of bed and actually experience a bit of a change in temperature, a rare occurrence for Florida.

Mike Evans

The return of Mike is this low? Yeah, it’s stupid of me, but I wanted to get to the fun stuff first. Evans’ return was such a galvanizing factor for this team, it was obvious from the jump that there was just a different energy on the offensive side of the ball. He also had some tremendous vintage Mike Evans catches, and that was fun to see, too.

The entire receiving corps

The first time all season we get to see all 4 of the dynamic wideouts we were promised! And boy did they deliver, as Baker was able to pretty much do whatever he wanted throwing the football (when he wasn’t being sacked or being stupid and irresponsible with the ball, which we’ll get to).

Raheem Morris for sticking to the math

I know people are going to burn him for going for 2 because old heads hate new things and things they don’t understand. But the math works out. Win probabilities aren’t the simplest thing to understand, but the fact of the matter is that everyone in the NFL agrees on this. You can either get frustrated or realize that we all don’t work for these teams for good reason; they understand the game a lot more than we do. What’d Vince Lombardi say? You play. To win. The game. And they sure did.

Falcons Penalties

Oh man. Just go look at how many they committed. It’s a good laugh.
