Buccaneers’ Playoff Hopes Hang by a Thread After Week 16 Loss

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing a tough spot after losing 23-20 to the Carolina Panthers in Week 16. They’re now behind in the NFC South division with just two weeks left to play. To secure their fifth-straight division title and make the playoffs, they’ll need to win their remaining games.

The Buccaneers’ playoff chances took a hit after losing to the Panthers, with their odds dropping from 77% to 58% – a 19% plunge. Despite this, they’re still favored to win the NFC South.

The Panthers have a 42% chance to make the playoffs as the No. 4 seed and NFC South winners. Despite this, the Buccaneers still hold a higher win percentage due to controlling the tiebreaker. This means Tampa Bay can likely secure the division title and playoffs with a Week 18 win. However, one scenario could eliminate them early.

The Panthers face the Seattle Seahawks at home in Week 17, while the Buccaneers travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins. If Carolina wins and Tampa Bay loses, the Panthers will clinch the division title without needing a Week 18 win. Another possible scenario involves the Falcons winning their remaining games (vs. Rams and Saints) and the Buccaneers losing to the Dolphins, putting the Panthers in a three-way tiebreaker.

The Seahawks are the NFC’s current No. 1 seed, making it unlikely they’ll lose to the Panthers. So, the Buccaneers’ focus should be on beating the Dolphins next Sunday at 1 p.m. before facing the Panthers in Week 18.

The BR Rub

The Buccaneers are in a bad situation after losing to the Panthers. They’re one game back in the NFC South with two weeks left, and their playoff chances just dropped from 77% to 58%. But hey, they’re still favored to win the division, so… no pressure, Bucs!
