Greg D’Cruz’s Buccaneers vs Dolphins Preview

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been in a downward spiral since starting 6-2. Unbelievable that with two games remaining, they can still win the NFC South and host a playoff game.

In recent weeks we’ve seen teams like Detroit and Kansas City miss the playoffs and yet these 7-8 Bucs still cling to their postseason lives.
This week they travel to Miami to face a Dolphins team that is playing their 3rd string rookie QB. Its a game that the Bucs should win but will anyone be surprised if they don’t?
I wrote many weeks ago that the best way fir the Bucs to find their winning ways was to open up the offense and score a minimum of 30 points. But last week, in the biggest game of the year, they handcuffed themselves by using a 1980’s gameplan.
They consistently ran the football, especially on first downs, instead of using their talented WRs to get some big plays downfield.
The result was a frustrating 23-20 defeat to the now division leading Carolina Panthers, something I never thought I’d say when the season started
So what kind of gameplan will the Bucs employ this week? Your guess is as good as mine. The Buccaneers not only play uninspired football, it’s also very boring to watch.
It feels like they need something big to happen to snap them out of this funk. That could be a long TD bomb to Mike Evans, a long TD run by Bucky Irving or dare I say it, an Interception return for a TD.
Many friends I’ve spoken to have already conceded that this season is over. More than 1/2 I’ve spoken to believe that a coaching change is imminent. Unfortunately none of us really know what will happen until this season ends.
If they lose to Miami and Carolina beats Seattle, the end will be on Sunday. With all that being said, I still find it difficult to believe that the Bucs will lose. I’m picking this one clearly with my heart. Bucs 27 Dolphins 24.

Of all the NFL teams that I could follow, why did I choose the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? It was 1979, I was an impressionable 12-year-old living in Canada. At that time, getting any NFL coverage was tough enough but that was reserved for the elite teams like the Cowboys, Steelers etc. I watched one game at 1 PM and one game at 4 PM. That was it. No Redzone, no night games on Sunday Each Christmas my family would drive from Montreal to visit my aunt in Jacksonville. I remember seeing the Bucs playing on TV against the Falcons when I was there. I saw something that day that changed my fandom forever. There was a QB wearing number 12, in an orange jersey and he wasn’t white! As a minority myself, seeing a non-white QB was something that immediately I was drawn to. I knew that this was the team, and this was the guy who I would follow. The years between 1979 and 1997 were obviously difficult but my fandom never wavered. If anything, it made me stronger as a person. I’ve often joked that I’ve had 3 wives but only ONE football team. I was asked if I wanted to write the occasional article for Bucs Report. Talking and writing about the Bucs is a full-time hobby so of course my answer was YES. I’m 56, retired and living in Costa Rica now. I sport 4 Buc tattoos and have been fortunate to make many visits to Tampa to watch the Bucs. I’ve made countless friends and even more memories. I look forward to chatting and interacting with the many Buccaneer fans throughout the world. Go Bucs Greg D’Cruz
