Buccaneers Slip Past Panthers 16-14

It happened! The Buccaneers beat the Carolina Panthers in a rain soaked game 16-14 to snap a 4 game losing streak. They now have to root for the Saints to beat the Falcons. If they do, they will be division Champs and host a playoff game. If Saints lose the season is over.

Selfishly I want to see another game and yes I’ll be there to watch in person. Playoff games are a rare thing in Tampa so it needs to be embraced.
The Bucs finally made “that” key play on offense, defense and special teams yesterday.
On defense, Jacob Parrish jumped an out route and made a key Interception right before the half.
The offense converted a key 3rd down just outside the two minute warning which all but salted the game away.
Special teams didn’t fumble the snap and Riley Dixon didn’t get his punt blocked and managed to land the ball inside the 5 yard line. OK, that one was a little tongue in cheek, BUT I’m sure I’m not the only fan who was concerned about the punt getting blocked and returned for a  game winning TD by Carolina. This unit has been bad all year and that continued again when they had another blocked FG.
I will never complain about a win. The Bucs did a great job at playing complimentary football for the first time in months. The defense clamped down on the Carolina run game, limiting them to 19 yards on 14 carries!
The offensive gameplan, while puzzling at times, at least scored 10 points on their first 2 possessions. The defense played well enough to win and that’s all that matters.
Now it’s Who Dat as I root for the New Orleans Saints. Whatever happens, its been fun writing for Bucs Report. Let’s hope I get at least one more game preview next week.

Of all the NFL teams that I could follow, why did I choose the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? It was 1979, I was an impressionable 12-year-old living in Canada. At that time, getting any NFL coverage was tough enough but that was reserved for the elite teams like the Cowboys, Steelers etc. I watched one game at 1 PM and one game at 4 PM. That was it. No Redzone, no night games on Sunday Each Christmas my family would drive from Montreal to visit my aunt in Jacksonville. I remember seeing the Bucs playing on TV against the Falcons when I was there. I saw something that day that changed my fandom forever. There was a QB wearing number 12, in an orange jersey and he wasn’t white! As a minority myself, seeing a non-white QB was something that immediately I was drawn to. I knew that this was the team, and this was the guy who I would follow. The years between 1979 and 1997 were obviously difficult but my fandom never wavered. If anything, it made me stronger as a person. I’ve often joked that I’ve had 3 wives but only ONE football team. I was asked if I wanted to write the occasional article for Bucs Report. Talking and writing about the Bucs is a full-time hobby so of course my answer was YES. I’m 56, retired and living in Costa Rica now. I sport 4 Buc tattoos and have been fortunate to make many visits to Tampa to watch the Bucs. I’ve made countless friends and even more memories. I look forward to chatting and interacting with the many Buccaneer fans throughout the world. Go Bucs Greg D’Cruz
