Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching rumors fired up more amid the firing of former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
Now, it looks like the Buccaneers made a move. NFL insider Benjamin Allbright said the Glazer family contacted Harbaugh’s representatives though Todd Bowles remains the head coach. When Harbaugh’s firing came out, his agent said seven teams inquired though the league only has six openings.
Harbaugh may be the hottest coach available all offseason because of his nearly two decades of success in Baltimore, a Super Bowl win, and many playoff runs. That said, the Glazers couldn’t honor his one request.
“Now, I’ll say this: Tampa called about Harbaugh, and they were told that Harbaugh kind of wants his own GM,” Allbright said via JoeBucsFan. “And so, that kind of nixed that, because they’re keeping Jason Licht.”
Licht has been majorly successful and consistent at the Buccaneers general manager since the 2010s. He brought a Super Bowl and the longest run of success in franchise history to Tampa. Whether or not Licht and Harbaugh could have worked well together is another question, but the Harbaugh’s camp wasn’t willing to explore that based on Allbright’s report.
