The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are gearing up for a big offseason. And it’s already looking like there will be a big changes. After missing the playoffs, the team is saying goodbye to some familiar faces – and legendary offensive consultant Tom Moore is one of them.
Via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times,
“Bucs senior offensive consultant Tom Moore has decided to retire after 62 years of coaching and more than 46 seasons in the NFL. He’s 87.”
Moore joined the Buccaneers in 2019 as a senior offensive consultant and helped lead the team to a Super Bowl win in 2021. Now, he’s retiring to care for his wife, Willie, who’s recovering from a stroke. His experience and expertise will be missed in Tampa Bay.
“It’s time for me to go home and take care of my wife,” Moore stated. “For 62 years, she made a lot of sacrifices so I could live a dream and it’s always been about Tom but now it’s about Willie.”
Moore continued,
“It’s time. I’ve been fortunate to land in a lot of great places. This is a great place. The Glazers are fantastic owners. It doesn’t get any better than Jason Licht as general manager. Todd [Bowles] is great . . . it’s a tough business. I’ve been blessed.”
Moore’s coaching career kicked off in 1977 with the Pittsburgh Steelers as the wide receivers coach. He moved up to offensive coordinator in ’83 and went on to work with the Vikings, Lions, and Saints before landing the OC role with the Colts from ’98 to 2010.
Tom Moore’s impact on the game is undeniable – he’s a true legend. His contributions will be remembered for years to come, and his influence on the NFL will be felt for a long time.
