Mike Evans is one of the all-time greats in Buccaneers history. He is widely considered the best offensive player in franchise history and a staple on many fans’ list of all-time favorites. After 12 seasons with the Bucs, Evans seems eager to keep playing, but there’s a twist – he might explore options with teams that have a better shot at winning next season, potentially leaving Tampa Bay.
Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports reports it’s “less than 50-50” Mike Evans will return to the Bucs, citing Evans’ desire to win another Super Bowl title and doubts about Tampa Bay’s ability to provide that opportunity.
“On the other end is Mike Evans, the 12-year veteran who has spent his entire career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At 31 years of age, Evans has struggled with injury in the past two seasons and played in just eight games last year, catching 30 passes. Those I’ve spoken with over the past week believe it’s less than 50-50 the veteran wideout re-signs with Tampa and that his career with the Buccaneers is likely finished. He’d like to go to a contender and win another title.”
Pauline continued,
“I figured the New England Patriots would be a good fit, as Evans would be the final piece for their offense, yet people in the know believe the Buffalo Bills are the team likely to target the former All-Pro.”
The Bucs could struggle to keep Mike Evans in 2026, given the Patriots’ Super Bowl run and the Bills’ consistent title contention with Josh Allen. Tampa Bay’s NFC South division isn’t as tough, but Todd Bowles is on the hot seat after an 8-9 season and missing the postseason.
It’s tough to imagine Evans in another uniform, but his desire to win is undeniable. Injuries really took a toll on him last season, limiting him to just eight games.
Evans might be ready to start a new chapter with another team. His record streak of 11 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, tied with Jerry Rice, ended in year 12. He holds numerous Bucs offensive records, including catches (836), receiving yards (12,864), total touchdowns (106), and points scored (644). With these achievements, winning another championship might be the only major milestone left for him in Tampa.
The BR Rub
Look, letting Mike Evans wear another uniform would be a public relations nightmare for the team. This is general manager Jason Licht’s first draft pick. He was part of a Super Bowl winning team. He’s a hall of fame lock. This is Mike FREAKING Evans!
I understand it’s the offseason. We get that outlets have to keep pumping out content. But not one local or national media person came out to confirm this report. So relax a bit and enjoy the Super Bowl.
