The 2026 NFL offseason is here and that means it’s time for mock drafts, draft profiles and everything that goes with them. So without further ado, here’s one of many Draft Profiles for the 2025 NFL draft.
Taurean York, LB, Texas A&M
HT: 5’10
WT: 228 lbs
Accolades:
- Second-team All-SEC (2025)
- First-team All-SEC Freshman (2023)
Video:
Pros:
- Instantly diagnoses blocking schemes, avoiding false steps and misdirection with his aggressive play style
- Natural leverage-winner who plays bigger than his frame, maintaining gap integrity in tight spaces
- Elite tackler with advanced technique and power, boasting an 89.8 tackle grade
- Effective blitzer with sharp timing and burst, showcasing his ability to penetrate protection
- Field leader with veteran-like communication skills and pre-snap adjustment recognition
- Possesses controlled aggression, absorbing and shedding blockers while maintaining positioning
- Tracks ball carriers through traffic with disciplined eyes and spatial awareness
- Better in coverage than metrics suggest, with fluid hip rotation and spatial awareness in zones and underneath routes.
Cons:
- Size limitations: York’s 5’10” frame can be a disadvantage against taller offensive linemen, who can sometimes lock him out if he doesn’t get quick enough.
- Coverage struggles: He can struggle covering slot receivers, lacking elite change-of-direction ability and getting beat laterally.
- Tackling angles: York sometimes commits too much downhill, narrowing his tackling angles and making it hard to adjust to cutbacks.
- Pass rush technique: He relies on effort rather than technique, needing refinement to develop counter moves.
- Contact management: York takes unnecessary contact, wearing him down despite his durability
Summary:
York’s tackling technique and run defense instincts are solid, but he’ll face challenges against bigger interior linemen. He often processes quickly and beats blockers, but can get overwhelmed when directly engaged. York does best slipping through gaps rather than taking on blocks head-on – a consideration for defensive schemes. As a blitzer, he’s got burst and timing that creates havoc. Coverage is a work in progress – he’s solid in underneath zones but struggles with athletic tight ends in space. Using him as a targeted blitzer and limiting man coverage could play to his strengths.
