One of the many trade proposals I’ve seen regarding the Buccaneers and Maxx Crosby is giving up this year’s 15th round pick, a future 2nd round pick and a current player (Godwin or Antoine Winfield Jr).
I looked at the past 10 drafts to see just what giving up that 15th round pick would mean.
- 2015 — Melvin Gordon, RB (Chargers)
- 2016 — Corey Coleman, WR (Browns)
- 2017 — Malik Hooker, S (Colts)
- 2018 — Kolton Miller, OT (Raiders)
- 2019 — Dwayne Haskins, QB (Washington)
- 2020 — Jerry Jeudy, WR (Broncos)
- 2021 — Mac Jones, QB (Patriots)
- 2022 — Kenyon Green, OL (Texans)
- 2023 — Will McDonald IV, EDGE (Jets)
- 2024 — Laiatu Latu, EDGE (Colts)
Not exactly a great list of players. Gordon, Hooker and Miller are the best of an average group overall.
The last two (Latu and McDonald) grades are incomplete but expecting a great player to come out of that 15th pick may be expecting too much.
Giving up that pick to acquire Crosby is a no brainer.
The next pick is a 2nd rounder in 2027. If Bucs make playoffs they will likely be giving up pick in the mid 50’s. Again, that’s a small price to pay for a player like Crosby.
Now, the most difficult decision. Do you part with a starter like Winfield or Godwin? If it’s Godwin I say yes. The Bucs can overcome his loss because they have a deep WR room (assuming Evans returns). If it’s for Winfield then I say No. The Bucs are already thin at safety and their Defense needs to add good players not take them away.
It will be interesting to see what the offers for Crosby will be and whether the Bucs feel that they can ante up if they’re one of the players at the table. The Glazers are known as big game hunters and Crosby would be a huge trophy to get for the 2026 season.
