Fernando Mendoza Talks Buccaneers’ New QB Coach Chandler Whitmer’s Impact

0

Buccaneers new Quarterbacks Coach Chandler Whitmer received some much deserved love from national champion Quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza recently.

The arrival of Whitmer as the new quarterbacks coach for the Buccaneers has certainly created buzz around the team. This excitement stems from his impressive track record, particularly his success in developing Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.

Fans and analysts alike believe Whitmer can bring that same magic to the Buccaneers’ quarterback room. And in doing so further elevate the performance Baker Mayfield, especially given his prior working relationship with the team’s new offensive coordinator.

Some Hoosier Recognition

Speaking at the NFL Combine, Mendoza talked about Whitmer’s influence:

He’s my guy. He helped me so much and I can’t thank him enough. I’m really looking forward to seeing him coaching the Bucs. He’s a great coach and a great mentor to me.

A Rising Talent

Whitmer, at just 34, fits the mold of young, rising coaching talent the NFL is keen on. His path has included stops at prestigious universities such as Yale, Ohio State, and Clemson. He also gained NFL experience with the Chargers and the Falcons—the latter being where he collaborated with current offensive coordinator Zac Robinson—before heading back to college to directly coach Heisman-winner Fernando Mendoza.

The BR Rub

We’ve been excited about the Whitmer signing from day one. And while the Buccaneers do have Baker Mayfield in-house, they’re also likely to draft a quarterback in the mid-to-late rounds in this year’s draft. At the very least they’ll bring in an undrafted free agent quarterback. So having Whitmer with his resume makes sense.
