As every Gridiron fan knows, the 2025 National Football League season came to an interesting end in the New Year with the Seattle Seahawks taking a pretty comfortable and comprehensive victory over the New England Patriots and there was not a Patrick Mahomes in sight.
Those of a Tampa Bay Buccaneers persuasion will have been far more interested in working out what kind of moves our Front Office would be conducting over the summer as we looked to bounce back from last years 8-9 National Football Conference South record and push on with noticeable improvement once again.
—
Since the Super Bowl one of the biggest stories surrounding the Bucs franchise was our apparent interest in premier edge rusher Maxx Crosby as we look to bolster our Defensive line for the campaign that lies ahead. The aim will be a Super Bowl year of our own and winning big like everyone who plays the options at a Solana crypto casino hopes to do, but for that to become a reality our plan will have to be spot on and Crosby has already thrown a spanner in the works.
To the disappointment of many, especially in light of the overtures that we had clearly been making in his direction, it was latterly announced that he would be traded to the Baltimore Ravens and obviously we now have to significantly adjust our plans.
That is only one question that Raymond James Stadium regulars will want answering this summer though when it comes to the make up of the playing roster and the kind of improvements and increased depth Buccaneers fans will want to see. In fact, it will raise an alternative question about General Manager Jason Licht’s free agency abilities given our relationship with the Raiders’ Front Office and how he had spoken previously about him.
—
Those concerns will supersede the reality of how good a shot we had of getting him in the first place given the season we have come off the back of, but his capture would have been a statement that many in the wider NFL world would have listened to.
Parking that question for a period, in terms of statement signings there are plenty of other big name stars out there that would more than make amends for missing out on Crosby. Although it is fair to say that they would come with their own challenges – such as Cincinnati Bengals Trey Hendrickson who would likely command even a more princely sum given what we could expect he would give us on a defensive front.
The Bucs could also decide to use their 15th NFL Draft pick but bring in someone who could produce from the off, even though we have already been linked with Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq and Georgia’s CJ Allen and Texas Tech’s Jacob Rodriguez could presumably feature on the list as well, at the moment no option will be off the table until we are confident about the forward path that we will take.
—
Whilst plans might have to be re-evaluated, Licht has given his word on the direction that we would rather take this summer and we will simply have to see how that plays out, and ultimately, with who. But to secure a franchise altering move this off season we need to be far more aggressive in the market and then see how the fates align.
