CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones just dropped tough news for Buccaneers fans about Mike Evans. On Sunday, March 8 — a day before free agency’s legal tampering window opens — Jones said his sources indicate Evans’ run in Tampa Bay is likely over.

The Buccaneers have wanted to keep him,Jones stated. “I think there’s a possibility that if Mike Evans gets offered somewhere, that he could take that offer back to Tampa Bay and say, ‘Hey, what do you want here?’ But according to multiple sources that I’ve spoken to, for all intents and purposes, Mike Evans’ career as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer – until he signs a one-day contract to retire as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer – is over. He will be playing somewhere else in 2026 and perhaps beyond.

Jones continued,

It’s interesting because they had this dance a couple of years ago, and folks with Tampa Bay felt encouraged they would be able to get a deal done. They did. But now that he is about to hit free agency, there’s a different tone. The Buccaneers were waiting, hoping that they could retain Mike Evans, but ultimately it does appear — almost certain — that he is going to be signing elsewhere.

Jones reports that Evans — who’ll be 33 in August — is hoping to land a two-year, $50 million deal in free agency, about $25 million a year. He flagged the Chargers as a team to watch.
