Pros:
- Explosiveness off the snap: Consistently wins with a sudden first step that puts offensive tackles on their heels and allows him to threaten the edge immediately.
- Natural leverage: Compact frame at 6’1″ gives him a built-in pad level advantage, letting him get underneath longer blockers and control contact points.
- Pass rush arsenal: Shows a developed plan of attack with effective counters, highlighted by a violent swim move and a well-timed speed-to-power conversion.
- Bend and flexibility: Displays impressive ankle flexion and edge bend, allowing him to corner tightly and flatten his path to the quarterback.
- Production trajectory: Pressures increased each healthy season, culminating in a 68-pressure campaign in 2024 against high-level Big Ten competition.
- Run disruption ability: Most effective attacking upfield, penetrating gaps and creating negative plays in the backfield.
- Motor and pursuit: High-effort defender who consistently chases from the backside and plays through the whistle.
- Ball disruption: Has a knack for creating turnovers, totaling seven forced fumbles over his collegiate career.
Cons:
- Size and length limitations: Undersized build with below-average arm length creates concerns about setting the edge and disengaging from NFL-caliber tackles.
- Coverage limitations: Struggles badly when asked to drop, with tight hips and a rigid backpedal that limit any functional versatility in space.
- Finishing ability: Despite generating pressure, sack conversion dipped significantly in 2025, turning 59 pressures into just two sacks.
- Point-of-attack strength: Can be displaced by combo blocks and has difficulty anchoring when linemen get into his frame.
- Durability concerns: Multiple injuries have impacted availability, with a 2025 shoulder issue that will require thorough medical evaluation.
- Anchor consistency: Base can get too narrow versus power, reducing his ability to absorb contact and hold up on early downs.
Summary:
Kamara projects into a sub-package role early, where he can be deployed as a designated pass rusher. His get-off, hand usage, and ability to win with leverage over length give him a defined pathway to impacting passing downs right away. The pass rush skill set is notably advanced for a college prospect—he strings moves together with purpose, generates legitimate power through his hands despite a smaller frame, and shows the ankle flexibility to corner and flatten at the top of the rush. His 2024 production against Big Ten offensive lines reads as sustainable, not scheme-driven or situational.
