The Buccaneers added depth to their defensive front by signing veteran edge rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad in free agency, a move that reflects both a need for rotational pass rush help and a desire to reinforce the edge-setting presence in their front seven.

Muhammad brings a well-defined skill set as a physical, assignment-sound defender who has experience playing in multiple defensive schemes. While he has never been a high-volume sack producer, his value shows up in the details—setting the edge against the run, maintaining gap integrity, and playing with the kind of discipline that defensive coordinators trust on early downs. He’s the type of player who allows more explosive pass rushers to operate freely by doing the dirty work.

For Tampa Bay, this signing is less about headline production and more about stabilizing the rotation. With questions surrounding consistency and depth on the edge, Muhammad provides a veteran floor. He’s played meaningful snaps in the league, understands blocking schemes, and won’t be out of position—a critical factor in a defense that relies on structure and communication.

There’s also situational upside. In the right packages, Muhammad can generate pressure through effort and power, particularly when working against tight ends or in condensed formations. He’s not a player offenses will game plan around, but he can absolutely capitalize on one-on-one opportunities if protections slide elsewhere.

Ultimately, this is a low-risk, functional addition. The Buccaneers aren’t asking Muhammad to be a star—they’re asking him to be reliable, physical, and assignment-correct. If he delivers that, he’ll carve out a meaningful role in the defensive rotation and help raise the floor of the unit as a whole.
