Bucky Irving Expects to Be Ready for Full Workload at Buccaneers Training Camp

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear set to receive a major boost as training camp approaches. Running back Bucky Irving expects to be a full participant when camp opens on July 29, easing concerns after an offseason spent recovering from shoulder surgery. His return would provide a welcome boost for an offense looking to rebound from an injury-filled 2025 season.

Irving Provides Encouraging Injury Update

Back in May, general manager Jason Licht expressed confidence that Irving would be healthy by the start of training camp. Even so, the young running back remained limited throughout Tampa Bay’s offseason program as he continued his recovery. That naturally raised questions about whether he would be ready for the first practice of camp.

Speaking with FOX 13’s Mark Skol over the weekend, Irving delivered encouraging news. He said he expects to participate fully when training camp begins, signaling that his recovery is nearing completion. While the Buccaneers could still place him on the active/PUP list if they choose to be cautious, that currently doesn’t appear necessary.

Buccaneers Need a Healthy Backfield

Irving’s return couldn’t come at a better time for Tampa Bay. Injuries plagued the offense throughout the 2025 season, and Irving was among the key contributors forced to miss time. He appeared in only 10 games before his season was cut short, leaving the Buccaneers without their top running back during a critical stretch.

The team also enters 2026 with a different look in the backfield. Rachaad White departed in free agency, while Kenneth Gainwell was added to provide experience and depth. Sean Tucker also remains in the mix, but Irving is still expected to handle the lead role whenever he’s healthy.

Opportunity Awaits

Irving has already established himself as one of Tampa Bay’s most dynamic offensive players. The former fourth-round pick totaled more than 1,500 scrimmage yards as a rookie before taking over RB1 duties during the 2025 season. His ability to create explosive plays makes him a central piece of the Buccaneers’ offensive plans.

The 2026 season could also carry major financial implications. Irving will become eligible for a contract extension after the season, giving him an opportunity to earn a significant new deal. Staying healthy and producing at a high level would only strengthen his case.

Summary

Everything points toward Irving being ready when the Buccaneers open training camp. That’s excellent news for a team determined to avoid another injury-riddled season. If Irving remains healthy, Tampa Bay should once again have one of the NFL’s most explosive running backs leading its offense.
