The Tampa Bay Buccaneers opened training camp with some encouraging injury news.
According to FOX Sports’ Greg Auman, tight end Devin Culp was a full participant during the team’s first training camp practice after missing minicamp with an undisclosed injury. His return gives the Buccaneers another healthy body as position battles begin to take shape.
Culp Returns at an Important Time
Culp’s availability comes at the perfect time as Tampa Bay begins evaluating its roster ahead of the 2026 season. Missing minicamp raised questions about his status entering training camp, but those concerns appear to be behind him.
Being back on the practice field gives the second-year tight end a full opportunity to compete throughout camp and the preseason.
Looking to Build
The Buccaneers selected Culp in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and he carved out a limited role during his rookie campaign. Most of his snaps came as a blocker and special teams contributor, but he also delivered one memorable offensive play.
Culp caught a touchdown pass that gave Tampa Bay a second-half lead against the Atlanta Falcons. Unfortunately for the Buccaneers, the Falcons rallied late to hand Tampa Bay a heartbreaking 29-28 defeat.
Competition Awaits in the Tight End Room
Culp still faces an uphill battle to secure a roster spot.
Cade Otton and Payne Durham remain firmly atop the depth chart entering training camp. That leaves Culp battling for what could be the final tight end position if the Buccaneers decide to carry only three players at the position.
Every practice and preseason game will matter as he attempts to prove he deserves a place on the 53-man roster.
