With the news that Buccaneers’ Defensive Tackle Vita Vea requested a trade from the team that drafted him, it could be yet another drafted Buccaneer legend who decides to finish his career elsewhere.
The list of drafted players who played only in Tampa includes tge following:
- Lee Roy Selmon (1976–1984)
- Derrick Brooks (1995–2008)
- Ronde Barber (1997–2012)
- Mike Alstott (1996–2006)
- Paul Gruber (1988–1999)
- Tony Mayberry (1990–1999)
- Lavonte David (2012-2025)
The unfortunate part of sports is that we get attached to certain players and when they leave we are shocked and sad. Considering that two hall of famers (Warren Sapp and John Lynch) aren’t on that list, you’d think we would be prepared for something like the Mike Evans departure and now the Vea trade demand.
After winning the Super Bowl in 2020 and trying to win it again in 2021, the team has overhauled their roster. If Vea does leave, only Tristan Wirfs and Antoine Winfield Jr. remain from that championship team.
Will both of these guys finish their careers in Tampa or go elsewhere in a few years too? If I had to put money on it I’d say Wirfs retires a Buccaneer but Winfield goes elsewhere.
So, Buccaneer fans, enjoy your favorite players now but remember that eventually they may leave too. It’s just business after all.
