A familiar face from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Super Bowl championship team has found a new home.
Former Buccaneers linebacker Devin White has agreed to a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions, according to Jordan Schultz.
“Breaking: The #Lions are signing former All-Pro LB Devin White to a 1-year deal, per sources. The Super Bowl champion made 17 starts last season for the Raiders, while recording 174 tackles (3rd-most in the NFL), 11 TFLs and 1 INT.”
White entered the NFL as the fifth overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. He quickly became one of the cornerstones of Tampa Bay’s defense.

During five seasons with the Buccaneers, White helped lead the franchise to a Super Bowl LV championship. He also earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2020 and received a Pro Bowl selection the following season.
Despite those accomplishments, White’s tenure in Tampa ended on a sour note.
Contract negotiations failed to produce an extension before the final year of his rookie deal. White eventually requested a trade, signaling that both sides were headed toward an inevitable split. Once his contract expired following the 2023 season, the former first-round pick departed in free agency.
White has bounced around the league since leaving Tampa Bay.
He spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans during the 2024 season before joining the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025. He revived his career in Las Vegas, starting all 17 games while posting 174 tackles, third-most in the NFL. He also added 11 tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, 2.5 sacks, three passes defended, and seven quarterback hits.
Detroit is now hoping White can bring that same production to a defense with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.
Interestingly, White is not the only former Buccaneers player to join the Lions this offseason. Former Tampa Bay safety Christian Izien and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater also signed with Detroit.
The Buccaneers and Lions have exchanged plenty of familiar faces this offseason.
Tampa Bay added four former Lions in free agency, signing linebacker Alex Anzalone, safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson, and edge rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad.
White’s departure from Tampa Bay may not have unfolded as either side envisioned. Still, his latest opportunity gives him another chance to prove he can remain one of the league’s productive linebackers while competing for another championship.
