Trotter enters a linebacker room that features veterans Alex Anzalone and SirVocea Dennis. This is creating a competitive environment for playing time. While Anzalone brings experience and leadership, Trotter’s instincts, physicality, and ability to quickly diagnose plays give him a chance to carve out a role.
One of the biggest challenges for rookie defenders is earning the trust of coaches. Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles has consistently valued players who understand their assignments and can play with discipline, and Trotter’s preparation and football IQ have been among his biggest strengths.

The Buccaneers did not spend a second-round pick on Trotter expecting him to sit on the sidelines. Tampa Bay believes he has the skill set to eventually become a centerpiece of the defense. Early opportunities in training camp are allowing him to prove he can contribute right away.
The biggest question is not whether Trotter has talent, but how quickly he can turn that talent into a consistent role. If he continues making plays and showing the reliability coaches demand, the rookie could force his way onto the field sooner than expected.
