The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering unfamiliar territory in 2026 training camp without Mike Evans, and Emeka Egbuka admitted “it is a little weird”.
Speaking with CBS Sports, Egbuka described Evans as “Tampa through and through,” highlighting how closely the veteran receiver became tied to the identity of the Buccaneers. After spending 12 seasons in Tampa Bay, Evans began a new chapter this offseason with the San Francisco 49ers.
For Egbuka, though, Evans’ influence was about much more than his production on Sundays. The second-year receiver expressed appreciation for the chance to spend his rookie season learning from one of the most accomplished players in Buccaneers history.
“I am just really grateful that I got to spend a year with him,” Egbuka said, while also expressing confidence that Evans will continue to find success in San Francisco.
While losing a player of Evans’ caliber creates a major void, both sides have now moved forward. Evans is focused on his next chapter with the 49ers, while Egbuka and Tampa Bay’s revamped receiver room look to build a new identity without the franchise’s longtime cornerstone.
