Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka could be one of fantasy football’s biggest values this season.
Yahoo Sports fantasy analyst Hayden Winks projects Egbuka to finish among the NFL’s top 13 fantasy receivers. That projection becomes especially interesting considering his current draft position.
Egbuka is currently being selected around the 21st receiver overall in fantasy drafts. If Winks’ projection proves accurate, fantasy managers could be getting significant value.
Egbuka’s Rookie Season Was Better Than the Final Numbers
Egbuka actually looked like a potential fantasy star during the first half of his rookie season. Winks noted that he ranked ninth among fantasy receivers through the first 11 weeks.
His production changed dramatically after Week 11. Egbuka ranked 64th among receivers from Week 12 through the end of the season.
However, several factors contributed to that decline. Baker Mayfield’s injury played a significant role in Egbuka’s decreasing production.
“Baker Mayfield suffered an AC Joint sprain to his shoulder in Week 12,” Winks wrote. “Egbuka’s catchable ball rate dropped to 50% from that point forward, which was tied for worst among WRs.”
That number had been 61% during the first 11 weeks. The quarterback change in performance clearly affected Egbuka’s ability to produce consistently.
Egbuka’s Hamstring Injury Also Played a Role
Mayfield was not the only Buccaneers player dealing with problems. Egbuka also suffered an injury that affected his effectiveness.
Winks cited ESPN’s Benjamin Solak, who examined Egbuka’s tracking data from last season. The data showed a noticeable decline in his ability to reach top speed.
“A Week 6 hamstring injury robbed him of his top speed,” Solak wrote, according to Winks.
Egbuka recorded 11 routes reaching at least 18 miles per hour during his first five weeks. He managed the same total across his remaining 12 weeks.
That injury clearly limited one of Egbuka’s biggest strengths. A healthier Egbuka could look considerably different in 2026.
Mike Evans’ Departure Could Create More Opportunities
Egbuka also had another obstacle last season in Tampa Bay’s crowded receiver room.
Mike Evans remained an important part of the Buccaneers’ passing attack whenever he was available. His departure creates a massive opportunity for Egbuka to command more targets.
“Egbuka’s target share also jumped from 18.5% to 28.5% without Mike Evans,” Winks added.
That could become extremely important for fantasy managers. More targets should give Egbuka a much higher weekly floor and ceiling.
Emeka Egbuka Has a Better Situation in 2026
Egbuka’s situation could improve dramatically this season. He enters 2026 healthy, while Mayfield should also benefit from entering the season healthy.
The Buccaneers also have a new offensive coordinator in Zac Robinson. Robinson previously worked with Cooper Kupp during his time with the Los Angeles Rams.
Robinson has already compared Egbuka to Kupp. That comparison could offer an important clue about how Tampa Bay plans to use its young receiver.
“In 2022, 19% of Kupp’s receptions were screens,” Winks continued. “He had a lot more quick-design receptions on top of that.”
Kupp also largely avoided press coverage during that season. Egbuka did not receive that same type of usage during his rookie campaign.
“I think he can do it now,” Winks added.
That could be one of the biggest reasons to expect a breakout from Egbuka. Tampa Bay now has an opportunity to put him in situations that better fit his skill set.
Egbuka Could Be a Fantasy Football Steal
Everything appears to be pointing toward a stronger sophomore season for Egbuka.
Mayfield is healthy, Egbuka is healthy, and Evans is no longer competing for targets. Robinson also gives the Buccaneers another offensive mind capable of maximizing Egbuka’s talents.
There are still questions surrounding Tampa Bay’s offense. However, the Buccaneers should remain involved in enough competitive games to create passing opportunities.
Egbuka already showed top-10 fantasy potential before injuries disrupted his rookie season. If he stays healthy, his current draft position could look like a bargain by December.
For fantasy managers, that makes Egbuka one of the more intriguing wide receiver values available in 2026 drafts.
