The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have moved on from undrafted rookie running back Kadarius Calloway. Tampa Bay waived the 24-year-old with an injury settlement, ending his short NFL stint.
Calloway joined the Buccaneers on May 11 after earning a contract through a rookie minicamp tryout. However, he never managed to establish himself during training camp or preseason action.
Calloway’s Unusual College Journey
The New Mexico State product took a winding path through college football. He began at East Mississippi Community College before stops at Old Dominion and California.
Calloway ultimately finished his career with the Aggies in 2025. He rushed 115 times for 438 yards and three touchdowns that season. He also caught 26 passes for 175 yards.
Across his FBS career, Calloway recorded 1,185 rushing yards on 229 carries. He averaged 5.2 yards per attempt and scored nine rushing touchdowns.
Limited Preseason Opportunity
Calloway signed a standard three-year undrafted contract worth approximately $3.1 million. Only $1,000 of that deal was guaranteed.
Unfortunately, he never gained much momentum with the Buccaneers. Calloway appeared in just one preseason game, carrying the ball eight times for 13 yards.
That amounted to only 1.6 yards per carry. His limited production made it difficult to separate himself from Tampa Bay’s crowded running back group.
Buccaneers Reach Injury Settlement
The Buccaneers waived Calloway with an injury designation on Aug. 17. The move created a roster spot for Tampa Bay.
Calloway subsequently cleared waivers and reverted to injured reserve. The Buccaneers then reached an injury settlement with him on Aug. 25.
The nature of Calloway’s injury was not disclosed. He is now a free agent and can sign elsewhere once healthy.
Calloway Still Has an NFL Opportunity
The move represents another piece of late-August roster management for Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers added running back Barika Kpeenu and safety Robert McDaniel after waiving Calloway and defensive back Marcus Banks.
Tampa Bay already has established options in its backfield. Given Calloway’s limited preseason production, moving on became easier once his injury landed him on injured reserve.
The settlement also gives Calloway more control over his next opportunity. He can focus on his recovery before exploring options with another team.
Calloway reportedly stands 6-foot and weighs around 213 pounds. He also has a reported 4.46-second 40-yard dash, giving him an intriguing size-speed combination.
Those physical tools could still appeal to teams seeking a change-of-pace or special-teams option. His next opportunity will likely depend on his recovery and roster needs elsewhere around the league.
