The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially reached the 53-man roster limit. Now, the team’s attention is turning toward building out its practice squad.
Tampa Bay is bringing back former UCF tackle Paul Rubelt, according to Fox Sports’ Greg Auman. Rubelt spent the preseason with the Buccaneers and now has another opportunity to remain with the team.
Fox Sports Greg Auman reported that Rubelt will receive an international exemption. That exemption allows Tampa Bay to carry him as its 17th practice squad member.
“Bucs are bringing former UCF tackle Paul Rubelt back to their practice squad. “Tall Paul” gets an international exemption, so he’s a 17th member of their PS — played extensively in preseason due to injuries at tackle.”
Rubelt Returns After Extensive Preseason Work
Rubelt saw extensive action during the preseason, according to Auman. Injuries along the tackle position contributed to his increased workload during that stretch.
Now, the Buccaneers have elected to bring him back as part of their practice squad. His return gives Tampa Bay another player who already has experience within the team’s environment.
The practice squad will continue to take shape. Tampa Bay can use those spots to maintain additional depth beyond its initial 53-man roster.
Rubelt’s international exemption provides the Buccaneers with an additional practice squad spot. That makes his return particularly notable as Tampa Bay continues finalizing its roster ahead of the regular season.
