Buccaneers RB Sean Tucker’s Status Up in Air for Season Opener

Sean Tucker’s availability for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season opener remains uncertain after the running back missed Monday’s portion of practice open to the media.

Tucker did not participate in the drills during the viewing period, adding another question mark to Tampa Bay’s running back depth heading into the opener against Cincinnati.

Tucker Remains in Rehabilitation

Head Coach Todd Bowles provided a brief update on Tucker’s status following Monday’s practice. The Buccaneers are still waiting to determine whether he will be ready when Tampa Bay takes the field.

“He’s still rehabbing and he’ll be a game-time decision right now,” Bowles on Tucker.

That leaves Tucker’s status unsettled as the Buccaneers prepare for their first game of the regular season. Tampa Bay will have to make a final determination closer to kickoff.

Josh Williams Could Get the Call

The Buccaneers already have their top two running backs established with Bucky Irving and Kenneth Gainwell occupying the RB1 and RB2 spots. If Tucker cannot play, Josh Williams would be next in line for opportunities in the backfield.

Williams would therefore become an important depth piece if Tucker is unavailable. While Irving and Gainwell are expected to handle the bulk of the workload, Tucker’s absence would give Williams a chance to contribute in the season opener.

For now, the Buccaneers are waiting on Tucker. His game-time designation means Tampa Bay has not ruled him out, but his availability will not be known until much closer to kickoff.
