The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive line has struggled throughout Sunday’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings defense. That pressure now appears to have potentially resulted in a serious injury to quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield has faced consistent pressure throughout the game. The Vikings have made it difficult for Tampa Bay’s offense to establish much rhythm.
Mayfield Injures Throwing Hand
Mayfield attempted to scramble before throwing the football downfield. On the follow-through of the throw, Mayfield appeared to injure his throwing-hand thumb.
The thumb appeared to bend awkwardly during the play. It looked as though Mayfield may have suffered a fracture or dislocation.
The Buccaneers have not yet confirmed the nature or severity of the injury. Mayfield’s status will be something to monitor closely as the game continues.
Losing Mayfield would be a significant development for Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers will now have to wait for further updates regarding their quarterback.
