The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fallen to 0-3 after losing 23-16 to the Minnesota Vikings. Tampa Bay now finds itself in a deeply troubling position after three straight losses.
The Buccaneers showed flashes throughout the game. However, too many problems continued to prevent Tampa Bay from putting together a complete performance.
Offensive Line Failed Miserably
The offensive line struggled throughout the afternoon against Minnesota’s defense. Baker Mayfield spent much of the game running for his life.
The pressure consistently disrupted Tampa Bay’s offense. Mayfield was forced to make difficult throws while dealing with pressure throughout the afternoon.
That pressure eventually contributed to an injury. Mayfield appears to have suffered a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand.
Defense Showed Flashes
The Buccaneers defense played extremely well at times against Minnesota. There were stretches where the defense gave Tampa Bay opportunities to stay within striking distance.
David Walker made his presence felt throughout the game. His performance provided one of the more encouraging individual efforts for Tampa Bay.
Alex Anzalone also bounced back after struggling during the opening weeks. Vita Vea similarly delivered a much-needed response in the trenches.
Special Teams Cost Tampa Bay
Unfortunately, the Buccaneers made a costly mistake on special teams. Minnesota returned a punt for a touchdown during the game.
That touchdown ultimately became the difference in the final score. Tampa Bay simply could not afford to give Minnesota seven points that easily.
Offense Couldn’t Find Its Rhythm
Emeka Egbuka also struggled to consistently complete his routes. Tampa Bay’s passing attack never developed the rhythm needed to overcome Minnesota’s defense.
The offense appeared to lack a consistent identity throughout the afternoon. Too often, Mayfield was forced to create something himself under pressure.
Questions About The Coaching Staff
Perhaps the most concerning part was the apparent lack of a game plan. The Buccaneers did not consistently look prepared on either side of the football.
That raises serious questions about the coaching staff. Tampa Bay cannot continue stumbling through games without finding answers to its problems.
The Buccaneers are now 0-3 after entering the season with much higher expectations. The team is struggling in multiple areas, and the problems are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
At this point, Tampa Bay has reached a critical moment. The organization may need to seriously consider whether coaching changes are necessary.
