Fox recently announced that former Buccaneers cornerback and first-time Hall of Fame nominee, Ronde Barber will be accompanied by his twin Brother, former running back for the Giants, Tiki Barber in commentating the contest between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Giants.
The Barber brothers played together in college at the University of Virginia before both being drafted in the 1997 NFL Draft. Tiki Barber was drafted in the second round by the New York Giants while his brother Ronde was selected in the 3rd round by Tampa Bay. Both players had illustrious careers, however Ronde is the only one to have been a part of a Super Bowl winning team (2003 Champs).
They both have had their fair share of awards and titles as Tiki earned himself 3 Pro Bowl appearances, 1 First-team All-Pro award, and the New York Giants Ring of Honor. He ended his 10-year career on a high note with 10,449 rushing yards, a 4.6 yard per carry career rushing average, 55 rushing touchdowns, 5856 receptions for 5,183 yards, and 12 receiving touchdowns.
Ronde’s career earned him 5 Pro Bowl appearances, 3 First Team All-Pro awards, 2 Second Team All-Pro awards, an NFL 200’s All-Decade Team honors, a Super Bowl Championship, and lead the NFL in interceptions during the 2001 season. He too ended his career on a high note, finishing his 16 season with 1,231 career tackles, 28 QB sacks, 47 interceptions, 166 pass deflections, 15 forced fumbles, and 14 touchdowns.
The brothers have faced themselves in their career 4 times splitting the wins at 2 and 2. Crazy stat: Ronde’s first career interception came against the Giants in 1998 while Tiki barber watched.
The Giants will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 1st at Raymond James Stadium and it will mark the first time the brothers have ever co- commentated a game. It will be a fascinating event as both former players are well versed in their respective teams, having only played for them their entire careers.
