Anyone who has had loved ones or has personally gone through a battle with any type of cancer knows that cancer sucks, simply put. That is emphasized even more when a kid has to go through that battle as well. The Bucs though made a dent in kicking cancer to the curb by raising $130k for pediatric cancer research. Up from their goal of $75k last off-season.

General Manager Jason Licht challenged the team that if they could raise $100k he would also get his head shaved as part of the Cut for a Cure campaign. The Bucs not only met that goal, but well exceeded it by raising $123k initially. That was until Bucs Gerald McCoy decided he liked round numbers and donated to make it $130k.

Licht gladly took part in the event, saying, “I just wanted to be a part of it,” Licht said, also noting his kids raised $200 just from their lemonade stand. “The organization does a great job with this every year, and I felt like I was missing out.”

This event was also very personal for the Bucs team and staff. Bo Wade, 9, son of Chad Wade (assistant strength and conditioning coach) is among the kids who are battling with cancer that got to shave and color players heads. Director of Sales Deno Anagnost, a cancer survivor, raised $22,000 himself for the campaign. For the Bucs this obviously hits close to home, and through that they were able to come together in a unique way to help others win their battles with cancer as well.
