Stump For Humph

I’ve stumped for Adam Humphries since his rookie year in Tampa. I bought my Humphries jersey before the Buccaneers online shop had even made them (special order). I was angry when DeSean Jackson took the #11 from him. Just so we’re clear on this topic, I am 100% an Adam Humphries guy.

Humphries is a free agent this season on a team without salary cap issues. This is a no-brainer. The Bucs, though, do not have a lot of cap room to work with as of now, and with so many free agents on the roster the Bucs are going to have to make some tough decisions.

This brings us to Humphries. Adam will hit free agency running. Teams will be clamoring to sign him. His consistency, his route running, and his reliable hands will ensure offers will be thrown at him. It would not shock me to see him in a Patriots uniform next year.

What will the Buccaneers do if Humphries is no longer with us next year? Buccaneer scouts were seen watching Clemson’s Hunter Renfrow closely at the Senior Bowl. While I know scouts are evaluating every player possible, the thing that gave me pause over this one is how similar Hunter Renfrow is to Adam Humphries. Nice clean routes, consistent, blue collar slot receiver. Check, check, and check.

Of course, this is all conjecture at the moment, and perhaps the Buccaneers’ front office already has plans to retain Humphries. Or perhaps they already have a plan B set and will be okay with him moving on.

Whether he stays or goes elsewhere, my #11 Humphries jersey will continue to hang proudly on my wall.
