Former UF QB to attend Bucs local workout

On April 14th, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will hold their local workouts. There will be a lot of talented folks from all around the surrounding area who will head to One Buc place in an attempt to wow the coaches and possibly make the team. Former Perdue/UF QB, Austin Appleby will be one of those guys in attendance that day.

It’s no secret that Koetter will have a fourth QB when heading into training camp and although he is confident with having Griffin and Renfree as backups behind Jameis Winston, he will be looking for additional competition at that backup position.

Appleby originally played for Purdue and during his three seasons there, he threw for over 2,770 yards and 19 touchdowns. He did that in just 15 games. At the end of 2015 He transferred to UF where he competed for the starting position and in  9 games with the Gators, he threw for 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Projected as a possible late round pick but most likely to fall out as a UFA, Appleby will attempt to showcase to Tampa that his skills coming off the bench are enough to be considered a solid backup in Tampa. He will most likely be just another camp body and will end up waived at the end of camp or placed on the practice squad.
