When the Buccaneers hired new D-Line coach, Brenston Buckner, he came here with a purpose. That purpose was to completely overhaul the D-Line and make it dominant again.
The Bucs have made several moves most likely inspired by Buckner. They signed DE Vinny Curry as a free agent out of Philadelphia as well as Beau Allen, and Mitch Unrein. Then they pulled off a blockbuster trade to acquire former Giants DE Jason Pierre Paul, who at times has been dominant.
Suddenly, Draft Day came. Most people were expecting the Bucs to grab Florida State Safety Derwin James, but instead went with mammoth DT Vita Vea. Vea can not only plug the run, but he also has a large array of pass rush moves to be able to rush the QB. He was a 3 down lineman at Washington. I can’t help but think Buckner was in GM Jason Licht’s ear on draft day.
Now Buckner is finished recruiting and it looks like he’s assembled a rather formidable D-Line. Time will tell!
