The Orlando Apollos are 3-0.

In a classic matchup of offense versus defense, Offense won today, Barely
The Orlando Apollos boasted a high powered offense coming into this weeks matchup with the Memphis Express, and it didn’t disappoint.

The Apollos, led by QB Garrett Gilbert, jumped out to a fast start going up 9-0 midway through the 1st quarter. In a surprising twist, it was the Apollos defense that set the tone early. Orlando’s defense bottled up the Memphis’ best weapon in RB Zac Stacy and pressured Memphis QB Zach Mettenberger early and often.

After the fast start both defenses dug in and we ended the first half 9-0.

Highlights:

Memphis marched right down the field to open the 2nd half making the score 9-6. But the Apollos answered immediately with another strike from Gilbert to give the Apollos a 15-6 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

The Express opened the 4th quarter with a field goal to make it a one possession game 15-9. Not to be outdone, Gilbert and the Apollos answered with a time consuming drive featuring the “Speed Option” to pull ahead 21-9. With just under 6 minutes left, the Express scored and converted the 2pts to shrink the Apollos lead to four, 21-17.

Orlando answered by marching down the field in a time consuming drive capped off by a victory formation kneel and a 3-0 record for the Apollos.
