Buccaneers Waive Wide Receiver/Returner

Wide receiver and returner Jaydon Mickens has been waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will go on the NFL’s waiver wire at 4 p.m. today.

Mickens appeared in nine games for the Buccaneers in 2020, mostly in a special teams role as their primary return man. Tom Brady had often spoken highly of Mickens during the off season. Against the New York Giants, Mickens saw his most productive day as a Buccaneer, receiving five catches in eight targets for 36 yards.

Mickens had previously been on the Buccaneers’ COVID-19 reserve list and hasn’t seen the field since week nine. With him now hitting the waiver wire, running back Kenjon Berner has been promoted from the practice squad. He presumably will take over return duties.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading into their final quarter of the 2020 season. The stakes are even higher now as they will try to make the playoffs for the first time in years. The Minnesota Vikings will be a team they’ll need to take care of before having to finish up their divisional matchups with the Atlanta Falcons.
