The NFL franchise tag deadline is Tuesday March 9th. Not so fast, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, that deadline may be pushed back.
A storyline to follow going forward: If the official salary cap number doesn’t come today and soon, NFL will have to move back the deadline to franchise tag players from Tuesday. It’s a situation several GMs are bracing for and would further stall business for a bit.

As Rapoport reported, the NFL has to release its 2021 salary cap numbers before a franchise tag deadline can be enforced.
This wouldn’t be unprecedented as last year the franchise tag deadline was moved back a total of four days. This was a result of the NFLPA pushing back it’s deadline to vote on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
