Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady did an interview recently. The exclusive interview with Tom VanHaaren of ESPN seemed to reveal very little. Except, it seemed to reveal a lot! Then again, in 2022, what is “a lot” of news for the NFL offseason?
Don’t Go There
The interview came off more as an infomercial. Covering the new line of golf wear coming out under the Brady brand. What it did not do was answer some of the biggest questions this NFL offseason . had reported. The retirement, un-retirement, Bruce Arians, Miami Dolphins fodder. Talk about controlling the narrative. He owns it
With the quarterback stating, “I know I don’t have much left, I really do. I know I’m at the end of my career”. Adding, “I wish you could go forever, but it’s just not, and Football comes at too high a cost. My kids are getting older and it’s just getting harder and harder to miss these things. But, I wanted to give myself and my teammates and out organization another incredible opportunity to accomplish something that we’d all be very proud of”. He is Definitely a realist.
So, No Creamsicles
It very much sounds like this 2022 season will be Brady’s Buccaneers swan song. Even though the greatest of all time is on record as saying that he wants to avoid a farewell tour. And while the conspiracy theorists still post that the future could end up in Miami, this iteration of Brady sure sounds like that retirement he briefly visited in February, could be closer than you think.
Which only begs the question. Can the NFL really not get the throwbacks done in time for the upcoming season? The most important thing on the team’s radar is pursuit of a championship in 2022, and revenge against the defending Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams. The “SECOND” team in NFL history to win a home Super Bowl. So the creamsicles are not of the utmost importance. Except for Bucs fans that would have plunked good money down for a #12 Buccaneers Jersey that didn’t have Williams or Dilfer on the back. But with the announcement of the inability to get the throwback uniforms made until 2023. After last seasons announcement that the “one helmet rule” didn’t change in time for the team to request the throwbacks for last season.
It almost feels as though a conspiracy is indeed afoot. A conspiracy to keep Tom Brady out of a creamsicle uniform. Which, if he didn’t want to wear one, if it’s as easy as totally controlling the narrative for an ESPN interview was for him. Would be completely doable.
