Buccaneers Godwin Weighs in on Team’s Strength of Schedule

To say the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2022 schedule is brutal is an understatement. Now, imagine having to go through more than half of it without wide receiver Chris Godwin. That may very well be the case as if you believe former Buccaneer and current ESPN analyst Anthony McFarland. McFarland recently stated on WDAE that he doesn’t think Godwin will be back until close to Christmas.

The Buccaneers kick the season off with a gauntlet of games in the first month. Starting on the road versus Dallas and then New Orleans followed by home games against Green Bay and Kansas City. All without Godwin. Recently at charity fundraising breakfast Godwin commented on the first four games.

“First month of the season, there’s going to be some fireworks,” Godwin via Greg Auman of The Athletic. Godwin went on saying, “he can’t wait to get back healthy again” but gave no timetable for returning, per Auman.

Circling back to McFarland’s comments of Godwin not returning until close to Christmas this schedule just got tougher. The Buccaneers have the fourth most schedule in the league. If McFarland is right, the Bucs will face five of the eight playoff teams from last year before Godwin returns.

Looking at the games following the season opening four-game gauntlet, it doesn’t get any easier. Hopefully McFarland’s prediction of a Christmas return is wrong. Yes the Buccaneers have Mike Evans and company, but Godwin is the straw that stirs the offensive drink.
