Buccaneers’ Fournette Pushes Back Against Report About Weight

Buccaneers’ reporter Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times had reported that the coaching staff of the Bucs were not particularly pleased with the condition that running back Leonard Fournette arrived in before mandatory minicamp began.

“Coaches were not happy, and that’s an understatement, when he didn’t participate in the OTAs, but then he shows up at the mandatory minicamp weighing damn near 260,” Stroud stated on his podcast Sports Day Tampa Bay. “And that’s not a good sign for a guy that you just spent a three-year contract on.”

Fournette earned the 3-year, $21 million contract this past off-season, there’s no disputing that. And showing up to mini-camp a little heavy isn’t that big of a deal.

In response to Stroud’s report, Fournette fired back with a now deleted tweet captured by TMZ. “No I weighed 245 y’all say anything”.

After deleting that tweet, Fournette retweeted a video of himself doing power clean sets. The video showed Fournette looking thick, but not out of shape, let alone fat.

In a follow-up post, Fournette took a shot at the media about the weight speculation saying “They wouldn’t have the same energy in your face so why entertain them…… See y’all September 11”

Look for Fournette to be ready to go when the Buccaneers start training camp next week. And I’m sure he’ll be in shape when he shows up.
