Being one of the world’s most eagerly anticipated sports leagues, the National Football League (NFL) is unrivalled in the world of American sports. Despite having a relatively short season, the NFL is deep-rooted within most American sporting fans’ hearts. It is slowly but surely spreading across the Atlantic Ocean towards The United Kingdom, with around four million UK citizens tuning into BBC and Sky Sports last year to watch the Super Bowl.

Whether you’re an NFL fan or not, there’s a good chance that you’ve heard of or witnessed the stellar musical performances, brightly coloured face paint, and show-stopping sportsmanship of some of the most popular teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Formed in 1976, the last NFL team has experienced many highs and lows throughout their impressive run but has shaped some of the most iconic players to set foot in stadiums across America. In the mid-90s, the Buccaneers started acquiring the players that would formulate the contending teams to come, helping them to secure their triumph against the Oakland Raiders in 2002 and, more recently, the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2021. This begs the question, which players deserve to be hailed as one of the greatest Buccaneers across the years? Continue reading to find out.

Logan Hall

Despite the Tampa Bay Buccaneers being present contenders, the rookie Logan Hall placed among one of the top picks in the 2022 NFL draft and will most likely have the undivided attention of many fans this season. Placing thirty-three out of the overall picks, Logan Hall is expected to play a significant role as a dynamic pass rusher in the upcoming NFL season. This had led to many fans placing significant wagers in brick-and-mortar and online casinos about how the Buccaneers will fare.

Some fans are so confident in the Buccaneer’s success that one man from Houston has placed a $3.46 million wager in two bets via an online casino on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win +3.5. Although not the most significant Super Bowl bet of all time, it is undoubtedly one of the biggest next to the $3.5 million wager placed against the New Orleans Saints to win the Super Bowl.

Being a defensive lineman, Logan Hall has a mixture of athleticism, size, and versatility that many fans hope will help to bring the Buccaneers to the next level this NFL season. Derrick Brooks

Widely known as one of the greatest Buccaneers of all time, Derrick Brooks spent thirteen years of his professional career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a linebacker, being part of the team that led the Buccaneers to victory in the Super Bowl in 2022. Among all his other talents, Brooks was a four-year letterman and three-time All-American choice at Florida State and was drafted to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the twenty-eighth overall pick of the NFL draft in 1995.

Brooks was drafted to the Buccaneers after a poor run that lasted around fifteen years, which soon improved after being recruited and led to some of the Buccaneer’s most incredible triumphs today. During his professional career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brooks never missed a single game in fourteen seasons, which helped solidify him as one of the most excellent NFL defences of all time. Ultimately Derrick Brooks was a six-time All-Pro choice, selected for the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 2000s, and named All-NFC eight times.

Lee Roy Selmon

Like Derrick Brooks, Lee Roy Selmon was another Buccaneer often hailed as one of the greatest players of all time and paved the way for the defence that the Buccaneers are known for nowadays. Before his tragic death in 2011, Lee Roy Selmon was the Buccaneer’s first-ever NFL draft pick back in 1976 and took the NFL team from height to height, ultimately earning him a place in Tampa Bay’s first Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995.

Selmon rooted himself in stardom with statistics that most rookies dream of, consisting of one-hundred and ten tackles, five forced fumbles, and thirteen slacks in a single season. During his NFL tenure, he also reached six Pro Bowls, the first of which was secured after leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the NFC Championship Game in 1979 – it was during this year that Selmon was also named the NFL’s Defensive Player of The Year.

Warren Sapp

Weighing over three hundred pounds, Warren Sapp was an unnerving sight for any player who had the misfortunate of meeting him on the playing green. Sapp became a dominant defensive force in his NFL days, boasting a mixture of agility, size, and strength throughout his professional career. In his thirteen thirteen-year NFL career, Sapp recorded 96.5 total slacks, with his record being 16.5 in 2000, unbeaten until Shaq Barrett broke it in 2019. As a Hall of Famer and the 1999 NFL Player of The Year, Sapp made signed three NFL contracts that totalled over $75 million combined.

Due to this, Sapp was building up a significant fortune that would have kept him living comfortably when he came to retire in 2008. However, as we have seen time and time again with many sporting legends, Sapp squandered his fortune while living the high life and ultimately filed for bankruptcy in 2012 after building up over $6.7 million in debt. Despite losing a considerable amount of his sporting fortune, Sapp is still considered one of the most excellent defences in Buccaneer history and helped mould the team into the force it is today.
