Buccaneers’ Vea Weighs in on His Performance

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense has been one of the best in the league since 2019. Last night against the Chiefs, well not so much.

The Chiefs offense posted over 400 yards and 41 points, against the Bucs, at home, on Sunday Night Football. Kansas City’s offense wasn’t only effective but balanced. Putting up 228 passing yards and 189 rushing. They were 12 of 17 on third down and had nearly a 17 minute advantage in time of possession. And strange enough, the game didn’t seem that close.

Buccaneers’ defensive tackle and anchor to the defense Vita Vea was brutally honest about his and to an extent the team’s defensive performance. Via The Athletic, Vea talked about this.

“It’s just tough all the way around, any way you look at it,” Vea stated. “Especially being on the defense and giving up that many points, it’s sickening as an individual. I’m not speaking about the defense as a whole. I feel sick to my stomach the way I performed.”

Vea’s honesty about his play is refreshing to say the least. He was measured in his criticism of his teammates which is admirable. The truth is, the defense as a whole started slow (again) and could never catch up and match the intensity of the Chiefs offense.
